The linguistic situation in the South Kerry Gaeltacht is such that we are dealing here with language revitalisation rather than language preservation.

The starting point of the revitalisation is to have the language spoken again in families. Intergenerational language transmission is at the heart of the language planning goal. As a result, we are providing a wide range of supports to South Kerry families who wish to use Irish at home:

• Social events for parents

• Whatsapp group for parents with Irish

• One-to-one contact with another parent with Irish

• Entertainment for children and parents

• Storytelling, music, painting, art, dance, drama

• Books, CDs, DVDs, board games

• Information on internet resources

• Information and help with raising children bilingually

• Help with learning or improving your Irish

• Support for the playgroups, schools and youth clubs in Uíbh Ráthach
